Salvaged Red Fir Knockdown Trestle Table
Salvaged Red Fir Knockdown Trestle Table
Book-matched California Red Fir slabs bear the marks of the harsh drought-ridden conditions of the Central Valley. Unable to emit enough sap to ward off a beetle infestation, the tree fell in the hills near Kings Canyon National Park before being milled, dried, and reclaimed. During this resting period, prime levels of moisture and temperature encouraged the proliferation of fungi and subsequent spalting, irregular patches of dark, red, and white pigmentation.
While the tree has passed, tiny pinholes of insect larvae and the coloration of fungi remain, reminders that through and in death, there is also life. In its new functional form, the tree will live on as a reminder of where we are, where we have been, and where we will go.
